Coordinates are specific to each guest’s itinerary and planting area. Provided before departure.

Every ILE journey contributes to a living, growing piece of Iceland. We plant trees in secluded areas across the country — matched to where your guests travel — and we give each guest the precise GPS coordinates of their own planting area before they leave.

This is not a carbon credit scheme, and it is not affiliated with any external organisation. It is ILE’s own programme, on land we manage ourselves. Each planting area is marked with a personal plaque bearing the guest’s name and the date of their visit — “The Johnson family planted here, September 2026” — placed in the ground before they leave Iceland.

Guests can return to stand in front of their plaque on a future visit, or open satellite imagery from anywhere in the world and watch the forest fill in around it, year by year.

In twenty years, there will be forests in Iceland marked with the names of people who chose to travel differently.

ILE is deliberately low-volume and high-value. We never scale at the expense of the land or the experience.
Responsible land access
We avoid routes that cause terrain damage and coordinate with conservation authorities to protect sensitive landscapes.
Environmental vehicles
We use the most environmentally friendly vehicles available for every route and season — electric and hybrid-first wherever possible.
Sustainable energy
ILE operations run on sustainable energy — in step with Iceland’s own commitment to near-100% renewable power.
Paperless by policy
No paper at ILE offices. Every roadbook, itinerary, and document is fully digital — for every guest and every team member.
Full recycling
All waste at ILE operations is sorted and recycled. We hold ourselves to the same environmental standard we ask our guests to observe.
Eco-certified maintenance
Every product used to clean and maintain ILE vehicles is environmentally certified. Because the runoff matters too.
Best practice, everywhere
We adhere to all environmental best practice standards in Iceland and in every other country where ILE operates.
