We work exclusively with the world's finest travel professionals, designing bespoke, authentic journeys across Iceland — the Land of Fire and Ice — and the wider Nordic region. Every itinerary is private, every detail considered, and nothing is left to chance.
Behind each journey is a team of seasoned travel designers, working across several of the countries we cover, and a roster of guides found nowhere else. Wherever we operate, we use only born-and-bred local guides — people drawn from extraordinary lives: former heads of state, scientists and historians, mountaineers and authors, actors and musicians. They don't simply show your guests a country; they welcome them into it.
I founded ILE in late 2015, out of a lifelong love of this country. I'm a landscape photographer and an unashamed history enthusiast — I'd spent years travelling Iceland's back roads with a camera in hand, reading everything I could find about its past. Before that, my career was in luxury aviation, operating private 747s for some of the world's most discerning travellers. That's where I learned, first-hand, what true high-end service really feels like — and how much quiet care goes into making it look effortless.
Iceland's tourism was still young then, and I kept noticing the same gap: no one was bringing genuine ultra-luxury together with the authentic, off-the-route Iceland I knew and loved. So I built it. To this day we work only with people who share that passion — Icelanders who represent their country with pride, who can tell its rich history, and who take our guests beyond the tourist trail to the true roughness and beauty of the land.
ILE is still independent and founder-run — but it has never been a one-person endeavour. I've been lucky enough to gather a team that shares this passion completely — people who more than make up for the things I lack, as I hope I do for them.
And what we have goes well beyond colleagues who happen to work well together. We share the same deep love of this country, a real joy in each other's company, and a closeness that feels far more like family than a firm. We love what we do — and, just as much, we love doing it together. The people of ILE are, quite simply, extraordinary, and I count myself fortunate every day to be among them.

The landscapes that draw guests to Iceland are also the landscapes most at risk from the people who love them. ILE is built around a simple belief: that extraordinary access and genuine responsibility are not in conflict — they are inseparable.
Every ILE journey contributes to a living, growing piece of Iceland. We plant trees in secluded areas across the country — matched to where your guests travel — and we give each guest the precise GPS coordinates of their own planting area before they leave.
This is not a carbon credit scheme, and it is not affiliated with any external organisation. It is ILE's own programme, on land we manage ourselves. Each planting area is marked with a personal plaque bearing the guest's name and the date of their visit — "The Johnson family planted here, September 2026" — placed in the ground before they leave Iceland.
Guests can return to stand in front of their plaque on a future visit, or open satellite imagery from anywhere in the world and watch the forest fill in around it, year by year.
In twenty years, there will be forests in Iceland marked with the names of people who chose to travel differently.
