Why Iceland

Golf Like Nowhere Else on Earth

Keilir Golf Course on Iceland's lava field

Courses that exist nowhere else

Iceland is already extraordinary for golf. A course on a 6,000-year-old lava field. A green carved into volcanic hillside with the Atlantic fifty metres away. A fairway in a fjord town where the midnight sun plays until midnight in June. Each course you play here is genuinely unlike anything you have played before — and unlike any other course on this tour.

ILE has curated ten of the finest — not for their difficulty rating, but for what they represent: the full range of Iceland's landscape, character, and light, experienced round by round as you travel the country from south to north. By the time you reach the final course, you will have seen Iceland in a way most visitors never do. And then the tour does something no other operator in the world can offer.

Golf in Iceland under the midnight sun

From south to north — each round building toward the finale

The journey starts near Reykjavík and moves progressively north. As the courses change, so does the landscape around them: from the geothermal south coast and dramatic volcanic peninsula, through western fjords and mountain valleys, to the deep northern light of Akureyri and the extraordinary quiet of Siglufjörður.

Every tee time is privately arranged. Every transfer is in ILE's own fleet. Every accommodation is selected for the right mix of comfort and character at each stage. You play. We handle everything else.

66°33′N · Grímsey Island · Arctic Circle

Just before midnight,
the helicopter arrives.

The final course of the day is Siglufjörður — a course in a steep-sided fjord town in Iceland's far north that feels like it belongs in a different world. The round is finished. The northern light, that extraordinary light that refuses to die in June, is still gold at eleven in the evening.

Then a helicopter lands. Not tomorrow. Tonight. Right now. Just before midnight.

Grímsey is a small island 41 kilometres north of Iceland's mainland, sitting directly on the Arctic Circle. The flight is twenty minutes over the Norwegian Sea. Below: open water. Ahead: a sun that will not set.

On Grímsey, ILE has prepared a single golf hole. A par 3, specially set up for this moment. The tee is south of the Arctic Circle line. The green is north of it. The shot carries you across 66°33′N — the only golf hole on earth that does.

When the putt drops, the champagne arrives. The bottle is opened with a Viking axe — sabered in the old tradition, with a blade that belongs to this latitude. A toast is made, the sun still above the horizon. And then the certificate is presented: official confirmation that you have played golf across the Arctic Circle. No other operator in the world offers this. No other operator in the world can.

The midnight flight
Private helicopter from Siglufjörður to Grímsey at midnight. Twenty minutes over the Norwegian Sea under the midnight sun.
The Arctic Circle par 3
Tee south of the line. Green north of it. The shot crosses 66°33′N — the only golf hole on earth played across the Arctic Circle.
Champagne by Viking axe
The bottle is sabered open with a Viking axe. A toast is made with the sun visible on the horizon at midnight.
The certificate
An official ILE certificate confirming you have played golf across the Arctic Circle. A permanent record of something that has happened in only one place on earth.
